The pain you are experiencing is most likely the result of an accumulation of incorrect movement patterns. Repetitive misuse such as bending, walking, standing, sitting, sleeping or playing sports with faulty body mechanics causes fatigue, pain and stress.

Pain in one area of your body causes you to overcompensate with other parts in order to protect the injured area. The incorrect movement patterns you develop to avoid pain leads to further discomfort and dysfunction (often in other parts of your body) that worsen over time.

Despite the nature of your injury, the pain, stiffness and loss of function that accompanies it must be addressed by evaluating your whole body. This ensures you a proper recovery, alleviation of chronic pain and also provides protection against future complications.

The reduction of pain and injury rehabilitation is our specialty at The BioMechanics.

A severe lower back injury totally laid me up last year.  Justin started me with stretches then slowly added in exercises to strengthen my back.  I am now stronger and my back is in much better shape than even before the injury.

New Injuries

A new injury that does not heal quickly will use other parts of the body to compensate and help support the injured part. The longer you leave an injury untreated, the more your body learns to use other muscles to perform certain tasks. This compensation leads to the injured part getting weaker as it no longer has to perform its function. Over time the original injured part becomes a site for recurring injury.

At The BioMechanics we perform a number of non-invasive neuromuscular, skeletal and muscular tests for clients with recent injuries. This is to ensure that the injury has properly healed and the body has not learned an inappropriate movement pattern to compensate for the initial injury.

"I injured my back on a scuba diving trip 2 years ago and was laid up in bed for days.  I went to Justin for help with the pain and he corrected the problem within a week.  I have had no back problems at all since then and have been able to continue diving!"

Chronic Pain

Think of a time when you accidentally stubbed your toe. Do you remember how you walked kind of funny so as not to put pressure on it? It is simple adjustments like this that can lead to your body changing its natural movement patterns. If these patterns are disrupted for long enough it can lead to overuse in other parts of the body. This overuse leads to pain and discomfort as parts of the body try to perform tasks for which they were not designed.

At The BioMechanics you will undergo a thorough postural screening, gait and movement analysis to ensure the compensations you have created are corrected. This is the only way to eradicate chronic pain that is the result of long term biomechanical abnormalities.

"A lingering hip problem was affecting my sleep and my quality of life in general.  Since working with Justin to learn how to correctly move my body I am now healthier and have even begun new interests such as boxing."

Alternatives to Surgery

For some severe injuries surgery may be the only alternative. However, if correct biomechanics are restored, many injuries - both acute and chronic - can be totally erradicated. Injuries are the result of damage to the structures in the body such as tendons, ligaments, bones, joints, muscles and nerves. These injuries cause inflammation which cause pain. The goal of surgery can be to replace, support or create additional space for the inflamed areas to operate effectively.

In many cases, biomechanical retraining of the injured part can reduce inflammation so the injured structures of the body do not need to be replaced or supported by surgical devices. The BioMechanics have provided many clients with a viable alternative to surgery.

"I searched many years to find a natural remedy for my degenerative arthritis and back pain.  I was headed for the operating table when I found The BioMechanics. Within my first few sessions, my back pain was totally under control and I was functioning normally again."

Posture Analysis

They say there are two constants in this world: death and taxes. But have you ever thought about gravity?

The force of gravity is always pushing down on your body. If your posture is not optimal, the force of gravity can take its toll on your musculoskeletal system as you try to compensate to stay erect.

This pressure on your body leads to pain, discomfort and a lot of extra unnecessary work for your spine and muscles!

At The BioMechanics you will undergo a thorough posture analysis and receive corrective exercises to help align your spine.

I wasted exactly 14 months of my life worrying that I might have a heart attack... all because I felt pain in my back and chest.  Doctors said I was fine.  But after one visit to The BioMechanics, we knew it was my bad posture.  Two months later, the pain is gone.

Biotonix

The BioMechanics uses the most cutting edge posture analysis system available in North America to assess your most important fitness consideration -- your posture.

They will create an individual BioPrint report to help you understand the postural deviations you experience while in a static, standing position.

These deviations will be discussed to help explain why you experience pain and fatigue in certain areas of your body.

In conjunction with the static analysis of your standing posture, the common body positions of sitting and lying will also be analyzed.

When you have mastered these basic postures, an analysis of your gait (walking technique) will also be performed.

The results of this analysis will guide your program at The BioMechanics to ensure your body relearns movement patterns that mimic everyday activities.

Note: A thorough written report can be created for future reference or for those clients who require evidence of findings for insurance purposes.

Muscle Testing

The results of the Posture Analysis BioPrint will help The BioMechanics design exercises to help correct your body’s musculoskeletal imbalances.

Due to previous injuries, anxiety, stress and/or fatigue to your nervous system, it may mean that certain muscles in your body are not receiving the right messages from your brain.

As such, a series of noninvasive manual muscle tests will be conducted prior to beginning your individual plan to assess your body’s response to the planned exercises.

The BioMechanics will use these tests to highlight areas of weakness and special exercises will be designed to reconnect muscles that may be receiving weak signals from the brain. This will ensure you are receiving the maximum results from your efforts.

Deviations of the Spine

There are many different types of spinal deviations that cause pain and discomfort.

Scoliosis is a condition marked by excessive curvature of the spine. This places stress on the disks of the spine and the muscles and tendons that support it. Lordosis is a condition resulting in excessive “sway back”. This can lead to lower back pain. Kyphosis, is an excessive rounding of the upper back. This is usually accompanied by a shoulder girdle that hangs forward off the ribcage. This can cause pain in the upper back, neck and front of the shoulders.

There are many more deviations of the spine, such as those that occur near the pelvis and head. At The BioMechanics we assess these deviations and design exercises to correct them before they lead to further pain and discomfort.

"I had seen many doctors regarding my hip problem.  I was treated with all sorts of traditional methods and most were not effective.  After my initial meeting with The BioMechanics I began to see improvement.  I would recommend their service to anyone ready to open their mind to other possibilities in pain management and reduction."
